If you mount up, you can stay ahead of the Elwynn Forest Wolf indefinitely. It is, however, relentless, and it absolutely will not stop, ever, until your lamb is dead. Unless you dismiss the lamb or go through a portal (which will despawn it anyway), the wolf will continue chasing no matter how far ahead you get of it. Even worse, more wolves will spawn and join in the chase. I rode around Stormwind for twenty minutes, and eventually had four or five wolves trailing me.
