So I will have to reapply it if another hunter accidentally overrides mine? ;(

When one person goes out of their way to get the improved mark, be a good hunter and don’t overwrite it. While Blizzard won’t allow a lesser debuff to overwrite an improved debuff for most every other class, we have to manage this manually.

This has been reported in the past, and I keep hoping beyond hope that each hotfix or patch it will be fixed, but there is a problem. If someone has points in improved hunter’s mark, it is overwritable by someone without points. Back in Classic it used to say something about a more powerful spell is active, but since TBC, hunters without points in Improved Hunters mark have been able to overwrite hunters mark cast by someone with points. Please fix this. Thank you.

In TBC Classic a 5/5 Improved Hunter’s Mark can be overwritten by a normal 0/5 non improved Hunter’s Mark of the same rank. This should not be possible and is a very big annoyance for any raid with one hunter who has 5/5 Improved Hunter’s Mark.

not true at all. If someone with iHM puts it up and another hunter without it tries to mark it says "A more powerful spell is already active" It is not limited to the hunter that placed it.edit* Unless this is a bug and not intended to be that way anymore. But at the moment... thats how it is.

Hunter's Mark: Hunters with Improved Hunter's Mark will now properly overwrite Hunter's Mark cast by Hunters without the talent. This used to be, but then was not. Now, it will be again. While it might rub your ego the wrong way always reading the message "a more powerful spell is already active," it is better for overall DPS this way.
Prinzipiell steht in den Patch Notes nur
https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Patch_2.4.0
[Hunter's Mark]: Hunters with Ability[Improved Hunter's Mark] will now properly overwrite Hunter’s Mark cast by Hunters without the talent.
Die "more powerful spell" Nachricht kann also vor 2.4 ggf. (auch?) gekommen sein, wenn man eigentlich einen schwächeren Buff überschreiben wollte - oder es kam keine Meldung.

apparently there is a bug with hunter's Mark where another hunter can overwrite your glyphed/talented HM.

You cant refresh a talented hunters mark with an untalented one. It simply won't be allowed by the game itself.
Dadurch, dass es mindestens zeitweise mal buggy war kann ich so erstmal nicht einschätzen, wer jetzt was verwechselt und in welche Richtung.
